Bonded Auction Business

Planning and hosting art auctions that makes use of bonded warehouses

In order to create new value at the airport, we are developing a new art business by utilizing the knowledge of the art and culture field of Japan Future Research Institute Co., Ltd., a group company.

The "strength" of hosting at Haneda Airport

In the past, only a limited amount of artwork from overseas could make it into Japanese art auctions because each piece faced import taxes to clear customs. By utilizing the bonded warehouse *1, it becomes possible to exhibit these items from overseas with the custom duties reserved. By improving the convenience of Haneda Airport, known as the gateway to Japan, it has become easier to attract and host international art auctions and this is made possible with the bonded warehouse management method that the Japan Airport Terminal Group has cultivated over the years.

*1 With the National Tax Agency's Basic Instructions on Customs Law amended on December 1, 2020 and February 26, 2021, art auctions can be organized in bonded areas (areas where foreign cargo can be loaded, unloaded, transported, and stored). The very first bonded art auction was held in October 2021 at Haneda Airport.

Wide-ranging auction business development

In addition to conducting bonded auctions at Haneda Airport, Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. can also provide support for bonded exhibitions at locations outside of the airport, in areas such as applying for permits and management consignment.
